" The Amazing Clay Cliffs of Omarama, South Island, New Zealand.
These really are billed as "The Amazing Clay Cliffs of Omarama". It's a heavily eroded clay outcrop that is continually being rebuilt by faulting activity along the Osmer Fault. The clay is mixed with gravel and erodes into these sharp spires under the influence of rainfall. The colour changes dramatically as the sun moves throughout the day, but we were only here for an hour or so.
These remind me of the Paths of the Dead in Return of the King, but I don't think the scenes were actually filmed here."
